A big thanks to the City of Taylorsville!

We gave a presentation this evening to the Taylorsville City Council (they can be a hard sell some days...) and based on the grins on their faces, I think they were surprised by how this event turned out. The pictures are wonderful, the teams have such spirit, the costumes are the best! Even better, we brought in $600 for the YMCA. Thank you everyone!

Mayor, no hat eating....let's just get you on a team next year! Thanks to the Council for committing to a team themselves, and the encouragement to have all the committees put teams in next year, also. We know this event will grow. We're excited to see it happen!

Congratulations Teams!

For our first year, this one was a success. We had so much fun watching all of you have fun!
Here are the results for 2011:

Highest Score ~ the "Iron Will" award ~ Fin's Up

Every team walked away with around $300 in prizes, free food, and great entertainment.

The Valley Journal ~ especially Raili Jacquet
The Valley Journal on Air

KUTV 2 News ~ Casey, you're great
Deseret News ~ great pics, Laura
Fox 13 News

We could not have done this without our amazing volunteers. I could try to name you all but I would leave someone out...and that's just not good! You were the best!

To our local Ham Radio operators - thank you for running logistics for us. Knowing where the teams were and making sure everyone was OK was a huge relief! You are all amazing!

To the YMCA ~ you are all amazing! We are delighted that this was a successful event and we know the youth and families you serve will benefit from every dollar that is donated. Keep up the great work!

Anyone who has pictures and / or videos please upload them HERE so we can all enjoy them! Click on the line that says "Add something?" and it will walk you through the process.

Our site will stay active all year, though we may not be posting. We are already talking about how to improve things for next year. Feel free to share your input and ideas. And last, if you need just one more event come and join our Taylorsville Dayzz 5K on June 25th. It starts and finishes at Taylorsville City Hall and is a favorite 5K for the community. See you there!

The big day is here!

The weather report is 55 degrees, mostly cloudy, and south winds from 10-13 mph. Make sure your cart decorations are secure!

The race starts at 10 am but you will need to sign your team in and pick up your map. We'll start signing teams in as early as 9 am for those who may still have work to do on their carts.

Remember our one solid rule in this event ~ CROSS ALL LARGE ROADS ON THE CROSSWALKS! If you try to run across Redwood Road between intersections we will have to let your team go....our volunteers will be watching all intersections.

We'll see you soon! Happy Day!

How does one watch the Urban Iditarod...

Great question! No roads will be closed and the teams have no set route. We suggest anyone wanting to see the action join us before 10:00 am at the starting line (see the next blog post), have some fun with Big Budha and Fox 13, do a little dancing and then watch which way the teams take off....

Teams and spectators are being asked to avoid Harmon's parking lot tomorrow morning!  It is already packed with Saturday shoppers and we promised not to go through there. Honestly, we would avoid the Walmart lot, too.

If you can bring a bike instead of a car you will have an easier time getting around and not potentially running over our teams! One of the best spots to figure out 3 challenge locations will be at the corner of 5400 and Redwood on the Furniture Warehouse side.

If any of our spectators video part of the event, we'll have a link to upload your videos in a couple days. We would love to see what you were seeing!

Thanks!

Starting Line

We'll be starting the Iditarod in front of the Haunted House in the Family Center this year. The address is 5576 South Redwood Road. It's west of the Starbucks and Jamba Juice you can see from Redwood Road.

Sign -in will start at 9 AM!  You will be given your challenge card which will have a basic map and a list of the challenge locations.  Each challenge location will fill out their own score card for your participation in their challenge. You can accumulate up to 200 total points for the challenges (40 points per challenge). There may be some bonus point options along the way that you can choose to do if you want the extra points.  Each location will sign off your challenge card so you will need to keep track of it!

Email us if you have any questions. We'll have supplies on hand if you need to do a repair to costumes or carts. The weather looks great and we're looking forward to an excellent event.

If you have a team that has not yet signed up.....time is almost up! Mush! Mush!
