A huge thanks to Robert Kirby for an adventure filled article eliciting all the craziness that can be found with a shopping cart. Compared to his exploits our race will need less first aid! If you have not read the article you can find it HERE. Kirby, thank you...
For you early birds, catch Channel 2 news Wednesday morning. Casey will be broadcasting from 'Bout Time Pub and Grub in Taylorsville to promote the Iditarod. We couldn't ask for a more fun place to hang out after the Iditarod and they have been amazing with their support of our event. Join us starting at 5:55 am ~ see one of our teams in their costumes, watch a challenge, get cart and team ideas, and see how fun this event will be!
We are delighted to send our proceeds to the YMCA Community Family Center this year. They are an incredible group helping families here in Taylorsville and they have embraced the Iditarod spirit! They will be racing AND sponsoring one of the challenges.
For those still contemplating entering this race, the weather will be partly sunny with a high of 49 degrees, we will be having a great time and you get food and prizes no matter what! Come and celebrate the kick-off of the Alaskan Iditarod with our own wild and crazy event! Sign your team up HERE!!
Team info and a chance for an early bonus
We've sent out an email to all the teams this weekend....no advanced preparation is needed! No dance numbers (that we know of), no team song (again, that we know of!). But we do know what the challenges are and figured we would offer you a chance to get some early points~you just might need them!
Any team that gets another team to sign up will get a bonus. Have the team you browbeat into signing up write your team name into the "what else" section. We'll let you know how many bonus points you receive the morning of the event when you sign in.
For those still thinking it all over (and we know you are out there because we see the numbers on our stats page!) you will get a map the morning of the event to show you where the challenge locations will be. We're not going to leave you running around in circles, although it would be really funny to watch! You'll have a map, a list of the challenge locations, and volunteers along the way!
We're looking forward to meeting all of you! Email us if you have any questions at TaylorsvilleIditarod@gmail.com

Because we adore you all....
Yes, we really do adore all of you even though we have never met many of you. We also know the whole wide world is having a hard time finding two pennies to rub together. For that reason, and a million others, we have decided not to raise the registration fee for this last week.
Team registration will stay at $40 until registration closes on March 4th. Yup, we even gave you an extra day.
There will be no morning of the event registrations.....
We have a couple stories coming out in the paper over the next few days. One is by an individual that probably created an event like this in another life, would be amazing in this event, and we will beg to have come and be a guest judge of the event. I'm not certain he will do it....but he might.
Send us a team registration. This is an event you will remember!

We have room!
If you are still contemplating this event....get signed up! We promise this will be a type of fun you have never experienced. What other time do you get to dress up, run through parking lots and down sidewalks with shopping carts, do crazy challenges....and not get arrested?
We still have room for teams. We have prizes. We have food and fun for a party after.
We don't have a team of zombies yet. Seriously! What good is an event without zombies?!? We could use a team of nurses. They are always handy to have around. Don't over think this....just do what is fun.
Register your team HERE!

If we could only do what Walmart did.....
Remember the food drive promoted by Walmart? Wouldn't it be amazing if you could promote an event in that way? Even though we know the Urban Iditarod won't gather that much attention this year we are still amazed by the show of support from so many directions:
The Utah Sports Commission: http://www.utahsportscommission.com/events.html
The Salt Lake Tribune: http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/news/51264270-78/mciff-carts-race-iditarod.html.csp
DDR (a property management group) and Sign-a-Rama helped with banners that are hanging around the Family Center
and all our friends on Facebook! Thank you all! We are so excited to meet you and see your teams and costumes!

It's "Bout Time"!
We have met with many business owners about helping with the Taylorsville Iditarod and we do get some really funny looks...I guess we have had a while to get used to what this event is all about. The guys at Bout Time Pub and Grub caught the vision of the event pretty quickly! Tim, Chris, and Trevor...you're awesome!
Signs and banners are up at the pub in Taylorsville - roughly 5600 South Redwood Road just west of Carls Jr. They are encouraging teams to get signed up, they are gearing up for the after party, they are mischievously thinking of ways to sabotage, and they are creating a challenge of epic proportions. You don't want to miss this!
Due to our love of their fries, we may go hang out there one busy evening and sign teams up! Let us know if you want us to hang out and help answer all your questions....we'll sacrifice ourselves for this great cause. Remember, all the proceeds from this event go to our local YMCA.

For those just tuning in!
The Urban Iditarod is a shopping cart race with a team of
5 participants (4 sled dogs and 1 musher)
while in costume.
Teams will have to create their own route to 5 challenge locations where you will compete in crazy and fun challenges. Your team will get points at each location and once you have completed all 5 you will make it back to the finish.
There is no set route.
No roads will be closed.
You will be running with vehicles and pedestrians.
We promise this will be fun!
The cost is $40 per team.
The race will start at 10:00 AM and teams must be finished by 12:30 PM.
There will be a party after while we are tallying scores and announcing winners.
If you are efficient the route will be around 2 1/2 miles.
If you are inefficient we look forward to hearing what route you took!
If you have found 4 people for your team but need a 5th, send us an email. We have access to "the pound" and may be able to find another dog you could adopt for the day!!
If you need encouragement....
This event is getting a lot of interest and we hope more teams sign up to share the fun. The busier, the better! Here are a few encouraging words...
- The route is shorter than a 5K. We can't give you an exact measurement but we promise it is short!
- The time factor is for the challenges and how many teams are waiting for their turn.
- Harmons on 5400 South and Redwood Road will loan carts. Ask for Todd (store manager) and he'll help.
- There is an after party sponsored by Little Caesars Pizza!
- The more of your friends you get signed up, the more prizes we can offer and the more fun we will all have.
- Registration is only $40 for a team.
3 weeks!
We are 3 weeks (and one day) away from race day. Is your team signed up yet? Fliers are in windows and businesses are calling to support this event. We are thrilled!! Taylorsville ROCKS!
We still have room for more teams so get your buddies together and sign up. Our challenge locations are set and our businesses are getting excited.
If you don't want to participate, sign up as a volunteer and give us a hand behind the scenes. We need mobile spies ("I" Spies?..he he) and organized individuals to help us track points and winners.
There will be an after party! Get signed up and we will email you the updates....you won't be sorry. We promise.

Our post on ethics...
Yes, this is a race unlike any other we have done.
Yes, we love the idea of costumes and silliness.
Yes, we are looking forward to some friendly sabotage.
Yes, people will find offense with about anything we do....so be considerate in your costume choices and sabotage.
To our spectators, it is your choice to be offended or not. Self-deprecating humor is the best. Let's all be able to laugh at ourselves and enjoy the event in the spirit it is created.
